What were the reasons for the formation of Swarajya Party. Describe its role in the freedom struggle of India.

    Marks:2
    Answer:

The reason for the formation of Swarajya Party were:
    (i) The discontent among the new members of Congress like Nehru who were unhappy with the sudden end of the non cooperation movement and wanted to continue a movement against the British without any break within the Congress.
(ii) Congress was against taking part in the coming elections as it was not satisfied with Montague-Chelmsford reforms. However, Motilal Nehru and C.R. Das were in favour of taking part in them and show hollowness of those reforms within the government.

Swarajya Party played a good role in stating their disagreement against those reforms and compelled the British government to study Montague-Chelmsford reforms.
