Urban waste disposal is a serious problem in India. In most of the cities and towns, about 30 to 50 per cent of the waste generated are left uncollected, which accumulate on streets and wastelands leading to serious health hazards.

Air pollution is a serious problem in India as it causes various diseases related to respiratory, nervous and circulatory systems. It can also cause acid rains.

Male migration is higher than females from rural to urban areas due to economic reasons. In rural areas, traditionally it is the men who have the responsibility of earning money.

Female migration is higher than males from rural to rural areas in India due to marriage. After marriage, females are supposed to move to their husband’s house.

Tourism can be defined as the travel undertaken for the purpose of recreation rather than the business.

Two ill effects of free trade and economic globalisation are:

(i) It widens the gap between rich and poor countries.

(ii) Developed countries prevent products from other countries to dominate their market.

Literacy is traditionally defined as the ability to read and write in any language and do the arithmetic calculation.

Age structure represents the number of people of different age groups.

Irrigation is essential for agriculture in India due to variability in rainfall from time to time and place to place.

Both growth and development refer to changes over a period of time. The difference is that growth is quantitative and may be positive or negative, while development is a qualitative change and is always positive.
