Describe any three changes that came in the lives of the Vietnamese after the colonization of Vietnam by the French.
Marks:3Answer:
Three changes that came in the lives of the Vietnamese after the colonization of Vietnam by the French were:
· French education was imposed on the natives. They were introduced to the culture and civilization of France. The educated people began to believe in the superiority of the French. Many others were opposed to the idea of French being the only medium of instruction.
· Health and hygiene were also affected by the colonization of Vietnam. The French built the city of Hanoi with the latest ideas about architecture and modern engineering skills were applied to build the most modern city. The native quarter of Hanoi was not provided with any modern facilities. This became the cause of Bubonic plague in the new city as it was an ideal breeding ground for rats. The natives were employed to catch the rats.
· The French colonization also had an impact on the religion of the natives. The natives traditionally believed in Buddhism and Confucianism and some other local practices. French missionaries considered them to be backward and tried to impose Christianity on them. As a result, many movements emerged that were hostile against Western presence and Christianity.
